ICSC RECon-bound with our partner, Esri.

It’s great to be headed back to Vegas to get in front of the most essential crowd in Commercial Real Estate!

Datastory will be joining Esri in Booth 34431 to help attendees understand how to leverage location intelligence for commercial real estate.

ICSC RECon is the year's pinnacle for everyone in commercial real estate. Once again, this year, Datastory will support our partner, Esri, to advance location intelligence in the commercial real estate industry.

If you're unfamiliar with Esri, they are the global leader in geographic information systems (GIS) technology and a best-in-class provider of the most comprehensive collection of geospatial data that anyone could ask for when making a real estate decision. I've been using Esri technology for nearly 30 years — much of that in real estate — and have witnessed it being a game-changer for many of our clients. The technology is unmatched when applying a geographic approach to business, government, and nonprofits. For many companies, the satisfaction of implementing Esri technology to deliver a clear ROI and rapid, iterative "wins" for the organization can be a mountain-top experience. However, the road up that mountain can be daunting, so Esri works with business partners like Datastory, who brings an insider's perspective to the best path to travel.

“When we first launched WareSpace, we had a vision that required market insights typically only attainable from a large research team. Datastory quickly delivered a solution that not only fast-tracked our ability to use location intelligence to drive insights for our rapid growth but enabled us to expand our vision for what we could accomplish strategically. Their guidance and hands-on approach enabled our team to grow our initial real estate portfolio by targeting our customer demographic, small businesses & creative entrepreneurs.”
— Jeff Jenkins | Director of Acquisitions, WareSpace

Climbing the Esri mountain…

In 2014, I was working the Esri booth at ICSC when David Hicks stopped by. He was a seasoned commercial real estate broker who previously worked for one of the big guys and had recently launched his own one-person company to focus on the northern Dallas, Texas market. He needed to leverage Esri technology as a differentiator, but he was honest about his ability to focus on "learning Esri." When he shared that dilemma with Esri staff in the booth, they said, "Meet Datastory." And that began a relationship that has lasted until this day. We like to discuss how we helped "David beat Goliath"! With the help of Datastory's Esri-based solution and services, he continues to outperform the revenue expectation of a company his size. And he's done so as a one-person shop. Today, we're helping various CRE professionals like David leverage Esri through MapDash, a turnkey tool for location intelligence.

If you need help figuring out where to start, start with MapDash.

Since launching Datastory over a decade ago, we've found an excellent niche in the Esri technology ecosystem. We are proud to be part of the Esri Partner Network. While many companies want to build their own in-house GIS team to build and operate Esri software, many others wish to some fast results; others need quick wins with an Esri-based solution to advance their vision for building a team. As a long-standing and award-winning Esri partner, the team at Datastory has learned a lot about what commercial real estate people need to get started. We've taken that knowledge and "put it in a box" called MapDash. Okay, it's not a box; it's Software as a Service, which means there's nothing to install or configure. And for an investment that is less than a single business trip to Vegas, you'll have a year-long subscription to MapDash for Real Estate, which contains everything you need to get started. (And we can do even more for a reasonable service fee to make it fit your business better. )

What's in the MapDash box?

Here are a few examples of what's already "in the box" of MapDash:

  • More than 200 best-in-class data layers that real estate decision-makers find helpful. These layers include demographics, psychographics, and consumer behavior data from Esri. Environmental landscape data about topography, wetlands, and flood plains. Government policy data about tax incentive areas, school districts, and more. Health outcomes data that identify areas of need for medical services. Traffic counts. Weather. And so much more.

  • Nationwide parcels (we felt this deserved its call-out!)

  • Foot traffic insights that summarize 12 months of patterns such as daily visits, dwell time, distance traveled, brand ranking, and dominant lifestyle of visitors.

  • A nationwide points-of-interest database of more than 10M businesses and places

  • Market opportunity maps that help you hone in on locations for real estate development and expansion

  • Thematic "base maps" that include simple light, dark, color, and aerial options

  • Infographic-style market reports, generated simply by entering an address or dropping a pin on the map

  • Simple tools for understanding what is nearby, measuring distances, and viewing/exporting tabular data

  • You can activate the underlying Esri technology foundation on a timeline that works for you.

In other words…

At the risk of mixing metaphors (here we go):

  • MapDash is the "fast pass that gets you quickly onto the location intelligence adventure ride."

  • It's the "gondola ride up the Esri mountain" for those that don't yet want to hike to the top and are more than satisfied with a fast trip to the mid-mountain lookout.

  • And regarding data, MapDash is "the Spotify playlist of location intelligence for real estate greatest hits." When you open up MapDash, the data tunes are ready to play so you can make significant business decisions.
